Product guide

From an idea to a clear scan.

A practical guide to building conditions, understanding matches and keeping your research organized. Start simple. Inspect the rules. Refine with intention.

Start with your first scan

Open the screener, choose a stock universe and build a condition. Daily is the supported screening timeframe. Begin with one simple rule so that the results are easy to check, then add further criteria.

  1. Choose a universe. Select the group of stocks you want to screen from the universe control.
  2. Add a condition. Choose an indicator or field, a comparison and a value. For example, RSI with period 14, Less than, Number 30.
  3. Run the scan. Select Run scan and wait for the result table to update. Check the result count and any displayed data timestamp.
  4. Refine and repeat. Change one condition at a time, then run again to see how it changes the matches.

Example conditionDaily RSI (14) < Number 30This asks for stocks whose 14-bar daily RSI is below 30. It describes a filter, not a trading recommendation.

Read a condition from left to right

Each row is an expression. Its selectors remain clickable even when they share one background. Choose the field on the left, configure its period or offset where available, select the comparison, then choose what it is compared with. Numeric inputs are editable boxes.

Field or indicator
The value to evaluate, such as Close, Volume, RSI or a moving average.
Period
The number of bars used in the calculation. A daily moving average with period 20 uses 20 daily bars.
Comparison
The relationship to test, such as Greater than, Less than or an available crossover operator.
Right-hand value
A fixed Number or another supported field or indicator. Choose the appropriate type before entering its parameters.
Offset
A previous bar relative to the current bar. Daily offsets follow trading bars, not calendar days.

A “greater than” condition checks a relationship on the evaluated bar. A “crosses above” condition checks a transition across bars. Use the available crossover selector when that transition is what you want to describe.

Combine ALL and ANY conditions

Every condition in the ALL group must be satisfied. Adding another ALL condition narrows the scan. If you add an ANY group, at least one condition in that group must also be satisfied alongside the ALL rules.

How groups workALL: Close > SMA (20)
ANY: RSI (14) < 30 · OR · RSI (14) > 70
A match must pass the moving-average rule and at least one of the RSI rules. Placing both RSI rules in ALL would ask for an impossible combination on the same bar.

Use the controls beside an expression to add or adjust its parts. Remove rules you no longer need, and check both groups before running a saved or edited scan.

Use Magic Filter carefully

Magic Filter turns a plain-English request into visible conditions. Describe the indicator, comparison and value clearly: for example, “RSI 14 less than 30”. Inspect the generated rows and parameters before running the scan.

Append keeps your existing conditions and adds the generated ones. Replace replaces the current conditions; the interface asks for confirmation when existing filters would be replaced. After applying the generated conditions, select Run scan to evaluate them.

If a request cannot be translated, simplify it or build the condition using the selectors. Natural-language interpretation can differ from your intent; the condition rows are the criteria you should review.

Start from a quick scan

Open Quick scans to browse the available templates. Selecting a template loads its conditions and runs it using your current universe. Review the populated rules afterward and change the values to suit the research question you are examining.

On phones and tablets, the template picker stays collapsed until opened to keep the workspace compact. The condition builder, Magic Filter and results remain in the same workflow order.

Read and export results

Results show the securities matching the scan. Use the table search to find a symbol or company within those results, and select a sortable column heading to change the order. Pagination and the page-size selector control how many rows you see.

Use the CSV export control when you need the available results outside the app. On narrow screens, scroll the table horizontally to inspect additional columns. A positive or negative price change describes the displayed data, not a forecast.

If no stocks match, check the universe and each condition for incompatible comparisons. Try one rule on its own, run again, then reintroduce the other rules. Read any validation message before retrying.

Save and return to your research

Sign in to save scans. Give the scan a name you will recognize, then return through My Scans to open it again. The saved-scans page also provides the available sharing and deletion actions.

Your profile page lets you update your account name, picture and contact details. Preferences marked as stored on this device are local settings. They do not themselves activate email delivery or change your plan.

Understand data and limitations

The current screener uses daily, end-of-day data. Results may be delayed, incomplete or revised. Compare the displayed timestamp with the period you intend to research. Features marked unavailable or coming soon cannot be used yet.

Read Market data & coverage for context, the Financial Disclaimer for limitations, or contact ScanR with the exact conditions and error message if you need help.
